Veterans Who Served Beyond

Being the distant strain of immigrants as most of us are, I truly appreciate what those in our early past brought to our country and our culture. We Americans are mixed bag but I, as most of my veteran family can attest to, join as one for our love and devotion to the flag and what it represents. I see it two Thursday nights a month at our meetings at the Hut. I grew up on so many movies made in the 40’s and though I came out of the turbulent years of the late sixties in Southern California, my dad raised me on John Wayne movies and the genera of earlier times. I guess when I came to Oklahoma, transferred to the USAF Reserves from active duty, Oklahoma just seemed right to me. Continue reading

I would like to dedicate this week’s article to a remarkable person who has given so much to the Hominy community. Ramona Brown has worked with the “Hominy News Progress” since 1988 I believe, and I must say, I was drawn to Hominy because of the “News-Progress”. I had been an inactive but dues paying member of the American Legion in Skiatook. One day I picked up a copy of the “News-Progress” and read the “News from the HUT” written by my old friend Roy Arian. I was completely captivated by his stories and writing style. I read the rest of the paper and was so impressed by the local flavor and love of God so easily expressed. Then I began to visit the American Legion Post 142 (“The Hut”) and spend more time in Hominy. I discovered a treasure. Ramona, you may have retired, but yours is a legacy that will last. Bonjour Mon Amis! This humble correspondent is sending from a brief vacation in New Orleans.  We (wifey and I) attended a Crawfish Boil Military reunion nearby in Chalmette and in usual southern hospitality we enjoyed a few days of fun, festivities, while honoring those who served with us and have transferred to the final roll call with our Heavenly Commander in Chief.  Cajuns do it right! Raffle Winner!

Well folks, we have a winner!
The raffle for $100 worth of meat donated by Wild Country was determined Monday morning.
Our own Dan Rathburn is the winner having made a VERY generous purchase of raffle tickets early on. Dick Pope did the honors of pulling the winning ticket to ensure there were no shenanigans. The big news is Dan turned his winnings back to the Post! I’m thinking BBQ ribs May 18th, cooked by Master Chef Jerry Sebert! More to come on that.
