As the Post Historian I am pleased to put that hat on today for this report. I have been watching a new show on the American Movie channel (AMC) called TURN.  It is the story of the beginnings of the Patriots struggle for freedom, from the Crown of England and the first use of spies. I found it interesting that the series began in this week.  Having been in Boston I gained a real sense of that history.  I had lunch in Paul Revere’s Tavern, and the Green Dragon Tavern.  The Green Dragon was the popular hangout for British officers to drink and discuss strategies while Patriot spies lay under the floor boards taking notes. Memorial Day Flags

Babo Carter is preparing American flags for the annual Memorial Day display.
The projected date for putting out the flags will be May 23rd.
We will probably leave the flags up for two weeks.
Volunteers will be needed.
Donations for replacing aged and worn past flags are appreciated!
More information will be announced.

Medal of Honor Day, April 26th

A ceremony honoring Medal of Honor recipients will take place
in Tulsa at Veterans Park (21st & Boulder) 10:00 am to 3:00pm;
on Saturday, April 26th.

This year, the guest of honor will be SFC Melvin Morris, USA (Ret.)
a former Special Forces (E-7) from Vietnam, who was originally from Oklmulgee
and now lives in Florida.

Post Commander O”Leary encourages all Legion members and families to attend this event.

Next Meeting: April 17th

The next regular meeting of the American Legion Post 142,
will feature dinner with cornbread, beans, and ham.
The meal will start at 6:00 PM.
The meeting will start at the usual 7:00 PM.

Spring has Sprung!

Spring has sprung though winter may feebly try a comeback.  Aside from a few cool days and mornings, I think we have the “all clear”.  Now if I just didn’t jinx it, we should be squared away.  I heard Eli Prater was on sick leave, but is rebounding and attended last Thursday’s evening scheduled meeting.  I was not AWOL (Absent With Out Leave) but was on covert operations.  I heard there was a good showing with the roll call including Charley O’Leary, Rex Mantooth, Babo Carter, Steve Swinford, The mighty Eli Prater, Dick Pope, Jerry “Sky Chef” Sebert, John “Giter Done” Doudna, Louis Hale, Jim Hale, Jack Cross, Jerry “Cool Hat” Jackson, Babe Long, and always John Fields.
