The battle lines go back and forth. We advance to weather in the seventies wearing shorts and short sleeve shirts, to 35 degrees and “just stay in the house” weather.  Welcome to Oklahoma, where winter and spring engage in their annual tug of war! Continue reading

In our battle against the harsh winter attack, we have wounded.  Super troop Jack Cross is down, and we pray for his speedy recovery.  Jerry Jackson has bounced back.  I was down two weeks ago and though much better have a few lingering issues.  The good news is we had a robust attendance last Thursday night with sixteen attendees.  The first thing I heard was I got it wrong last week in the article.  Our raffle is a $1 coupon for $100 in beef from Wild Country (Thanks Chris!), not 100#s.  If you see donation jars around town please note that as I updated the one in the NAPA Auto Store.  Someone must have picked up what I thought I heard or got it from my humble submission last week.  Note that the drawing will take place the Monday after Easter Sunday 21 Apr 2014.  More details on that next week.  Now with foot removed from mouth I will continue on some of the interesting things that come up when a room full of patriotic characters get together after delays of meetings. Though we had our brief respite from the harsh winter attack, winter has regrouped and renewed a frontal attack.  We as well will re-banded, regrouped, and gain final victory (for at least this year) as spring approaches.  By the way, if you bump in to any of our group around town be sure to buy a raffle ticket for our drawing soon for 100 pounds of meat from Wild Country!  Wild Country continues to support patriots and veterans.  I will fall back to recount historical event of this week of consequence with a twist or two. Finally, we had enough of a reprieve from the weather that our group re-banded, regrouped, and got a focus on where we are on things. We had a great showing February 20, although our fearless leader was out attending the Marine Corp Annual Ira Hayes- Iwo Jima Memorial Parade meeting, in Casa Grande Arizona.  In retrospect, I think of some of the “jarheads” I have known over my thirty years of service and one comes to mind.  He is a local, Vietnam Veteran  that preceded me in my unit as the Top Rank.  His experience, humility and crazy sense of humor drew my great respect as we served.  He gave me his nod to fill his gap as he passed the torch of leadership at our Squadron.  He was a mentor, I learned much from him. I hope he sees this and thinks about dropping in sometime for a cup of Joe, though back in our day there might have been a bit of the dew. Continue reading

Although we have had a reprieve from the hard cold snowy winter with meetings postponed for safety reasons, this “Historian” of the Hut still has time to dig back in history for interesting tidbits. Today marks a date from the past that pretty much defines the war of words, the effort to win without blood being sacrificed.  February 17, 2014 marks to birth of the Voice of America.
