This week we recognized Flag Day (Friday, June 14). Most towns I traveled through proudly displayed the Stars and Stripes. As I reflected on the amazing history of our flag, I went out to the internet to research a few things I was taught as a boy about the flag, and thought I might dig deeper. With thanks to Google, here is what I discovered about the “Star Spangled Banner”. Continue reading

What an amazing meeting we had June 6th. Here on the anniversary of
D-Day, when Hitler and his Nazis regime began its decline, freedom, at
great sacrifice won the day, I sat in awe of veterans from that war in
our midst, Babe Long, Dick Pope, and (though AWOL) John Field in our
community. I look into the eyes of these guys and they have no idea how
much they have given us. They are our greatest generation. As Charlie
“Doc” O’Leary said, “because of them we don’t speak Duetch (German). Continue reading

Well, Memorial Day threw me off my usual weekly clock so this may be a
bit late. I was pondering what I wanted to write to the fine readers of
the “Hominy News – Progress” and my wife came by my desk and gave me my
marching orders for the article. Continue reading

Wow, what a great surprise we had at this past Thursday evening meeting
at the Hut. Our roll call included Dick Pope, Eli Prater (Adjutant),
Jerry Sebert (a former fellow flyboy), Charles “Doc” O’Leary, Rex
Mantooth (Chaplin), Babo Carter (Sgt at Arms), Jim Hale, Jim Frazier
(Post Commander), and myself, your humble correspondent. The Post
Commander Jim Frazier updated us on several things including the coming
State Convention in Oklahoma City and that our Post will conduct
officer elections June the 6th. Babo Carter (Sgt at Arms) updated us on
the status of flag placement for both the Armed Forces Day weekend as
well as the Memorial Day weekend. He reported that seventy five flags
were up at this time and they have forty five more to go. I came into
Hominy Sunday morning after and was certain that happened because
everywhere I looked I saw the beloved Red, White, and Blue gently
flowing in the morning breeze. He also noted that the big push will be
placing flags at 9 AM Friday May 24th at the cemetery. Boy Scout troops
and any other Civic groups are welcome to help. Continue reading

Post Commander Jim Frazier wants to remind everyone that we are
approaching a significant time in the next few weeks. He hopes as I do,
that we will find volunteers to help place flags for our Veterans at
the cemetery for Memorial Day. We will begin placing flags at 9 AM
Friday May 24th. Boy Scout troops and any other Civic groups are
welcome to help and will be recognized for their devotion to our past
heroes. Please contact Babo Carter at 918-885-6041.
Thanks Babo for your passion to remember those who served. Continue reading
