“News from the Hut”

I looked forward to an update on the combined Auxiliary and Post Pork Rib Cookout that happened the 17th of May at 1800 hrs. Family members of the entire crew were invited to attend. I was AWL (Absent with Leave, I just made that up) due to a previous commitment made months ago. Trust me, what I had for dinner was K-Rations compared to the feast I missed. Our commander informed me that a good crowd attended and a great time was had by all. Jerry’s ribs were outstanding, as usual. The Auxiliary came through with side dishes and the heavy lifting of clean up duties after (thank you ladies!).
The HVAC should be wrapped up quickly and just in time for the warmer weather which has finally arrived. I spoke with Johnny Doudna the other day and things are progressing nicely. John has also done the footwork to find a great price on ordering new caps for the Hut everyone is going to love.
We continue to look for community support for the Post and Babo Carter’s annual effort to recognize the heroes of our past (ensuring the freedoms for those of our future) continues. We are still seeking contributions and volunteers for this patriotic duty. Call Babo at 918-885-6041 to donate time or money to this worthy cause. Babo recently suffered a great personal conflict receiving a contribution with “Go Sooners” written on the check. As I hear it he had “conflicting emotions” depositing it (GO POKES!). We will be out 9:00 AM on Friday May 23rd to begin setting flags. I’m in! We will also need help in removal June 2nd at noon. Contact Babo for any details. While on the subject May 26th, Memorial Day, we will gather at the Post for a flag ceremony to be performed at noon. It should be well attended and you might want to drop by and join us as we honor this timeless homage to our country.
Our regular meetings are the first and third Thursday (5th and 19th June) meeting at 1900 hrs. An added plus is that quarterly the meeting will be a shared event with the Auxiliary. Finally some class and grace will be added to our gatherings. Monday morning Koffee Klatch meetings for June are still up and running starting around 0700 till about 0900 with Monday Memorial Day as a day off. Dan, Eli, and Jerry usually have things set up where we can catch up on each others mischief and story telling. If you are a veteran come on by. If you have a good story it may end up in print!
