Lots of Meetings!

“News from the Hut”
for American Legion Post #142; Hominy, Oklahoma.
>>> by Gary Lanham

Well a new tradition has begun at the Hut. Birthdays are now celebrated for our clan. This time it was very special with cake and ice cream provided by Chef Jerry Sebert (USAF). Rex Mantooth clocked in at a very young 97, with Eli Prater as runner up at 84. These kids have been around the block a few times, and deserve a round of applause for their contributions to the Post and community. I am thankful to our Supreme Commander in Chief for their legacy and example.

A few notable events are on the horizon. It has been decided that we will have a combined dinner with our Auxiliary sweethearts February 13th at 1800 (that’s 6 pm Doc) at the Hut for Valentine’s Day. Rumor has it we will dine on ribs. I will check on that with Chef Sebert. The Auxiliary has been the backbone of our Post contributing in so many ways to include help with our new water heater. Thanks gals for putting up with us (grin).

After that special evening we will have our famous (or infamous) Chicken Noodle dinner fundraiser on February the 28th. From 1100 to 1300. I promise it will be fun and entertaining and all funds received eventually goes back to supporting patriotism in our community.

Our Commander, Charles “Doc” O’Leary, wanted to remind everyone that the flu is sweeping the area. He has been working twelve hour days helping folks at the clinic and advises everyone to wash your hands often and avoid crowds of folks as the flu transmits by contact and air.

On a personal note, I attended our district meeting last Saturday in Bartlesville. I had the privilege to meet our counterparts from several Posts. There are always a few fireworks, but I was impressed with the State Commander Tim Smith, as well as our brothers from Ralston Post 333. Mitch Henderson is the new District 1B Vice Commander out of Tulsa Post 1. We have a date of May 2 at that Post to meet for our next District meeting checking in at 0900. Just to put the cherry on top of the sundae, our Post was recognized for achieving our recruitment goal of 105%. Way to go troops!

Our regular meetings are usually the first and third Thursdays at 7:00 PM (February 5th and 19th). Monday morning Koffee Klatch meetings in late January and February are still up (if weather permits) and running starting around 0700 till about 0900. Thanks to the crew for providing biscuits and gravy and maybe a waffle or two and always a cup of Joe (coffee to the civilians). If you are a veteran come on by. If you have a good story it may end up in print! Also keep up with us at website “americanlegion142.org”.
