A Time for Celebration

What a time for Hominy! Our High School football team won State and we have a fantastic parade coming this weekend. While we are proud of our players I think, we are also proud of all our students at school. They are involved in the community and all types of activities. I have seen some attend our community movies and believe they are the future of Hominy.

Tonight, the Legion-Auxiliary Christmas Dinner (December 15th) will begin at 6 PM. Then Friday our famous Chicken Noodle fundraiser luncheon December 16th. 11 AM till 1 PM. Make sure you get your order in. We will do our best to get it to you quickly. Again, the big Christmas Parade will be on Saturday evening December 17th at 6:30 PM. So show up and bundle up early for a good spot and look for the Legion bunch in the proceedings.

As most of you know Oklahoma Governor Fallin signed our Proclamation declaring Hominy’s own, Kenneth Taylor Day in Oklahoma the Saturday preceding 7 December for his bravery during the attack on Pearl Harbor. A picture of Kenneth Taylor (from the Hut), his military hat (courtesy of the Heritage Association), and the Proclamation will be on display at the City Hall till Christmas for all to see. After Christmas, the Proclamation and picture will remain on permanent display at American Legion Post 142.

Next week will be the last newspaper till 2017. I will try to write up something special. It is a good time to remember why we have this wonderful time of the year. Warm fireplaces, good friends, and family; the things we treasure are given at a high cost of those who still serve today far from home, fireplaces, friends, and family. Appreciate our soldiers and your veterans. But most of all, the birth of the author of our freedom. The Savior.

The Monday morning Koffee Klatch meetings for December Monday’s (updates may be pending) are still scheduled for biscuits and gravy and always a cup of Joe (coffee to the civilians).  Keep your eye on the weather in case things have to be postponed. If you are a veteran come on by. If you have a good story it may end up in print. Also keep up with us at website “americanlegion142.org”.
