NEWS FROM THE HUT by John Hamilton
Last week, I wrote about our monthly dinner meeting that took place on Thursday, October 21st and was an installation of officers meeting. Prior to the dinner meeting, we held our first Sons of the American Legion (SAL) meeting in over a year. It went fairly well. The dinner was wonderful with barbequed pork, beef, and chicken. The members provided multiple, delicious sides and desserts. After dinner the installation meeting followed with the swearing in of the previous elected officers. A great time was had by all.

This past Saturday, October 23rd Charlie O’Leary and I attended the Oklahoma Department Executive Committee (DEC) meeting in Shawnee, OK. The Department Officers delivered their reports on various topics such as Boys State, membership, 10-gun raffle tickets sales, the Legion Outdoor Program, service office parolee assistance program, and the US Flag Code.
The 10-gun raffle drawing will be held during this mid-winter conference in Shawnee, OK in January 2022. If you want a chance to win one of the ten guns, track down any of the Post 142 members in Hominy. Each ticket is only $10.00.
Boys State event venue has changed to Rogers State University (RSU) located at 1701 W. Will Rogers Blvd. in Claremore, OK. The regular cost per delegate is $299.00. According to Senator Cory D. Brook, Ret., Director of Oklahoma AL Boys State, the dates locked in for the 2022 Boys State are May 28 to June 4. Early bird registrations prior to May will be at a reduced amount. More about Boys State in upcoming articles.
