Happy Valentine’s Day!

This week on the 13th will be the Legion-Auxillary Valentine Banquet at the Hut at 6:00 pm. The meal is a compelation of main course meats and a million side dishes with amazing homemade desserts buy the spouses. There will be no meeting after. The meeting is moved to 20 Feburary at 6:00 pm.

Legacy

On this day in 1944 my Dad was fighting Nazis at Anzio. The Anzio initiative had Allied forces numbering 69,000 troops with 508 guns and 237 tanks. General Lucas made preparations for an offensive to break out of the beachhead. Meanwhile, the German forces now consist of 8 divisions under 14th Army. There are German air strikes which result in 1 cruiser and 1 transport sunk. To the south, along the German-held Gustav Line, forces of the US 5th Army continue attacking. The 34th Division makes some progress in expanding the bridgehead over the Rapido River. We won.

Wild Times!

What a wild weather weekend we just experienced! Tornadoes, wind, torrential rain followed by freezing tempretures, ice, then snow. Now nice weather. Only in Oklahoma! Fortuntely our leadership made it down to Shawnee Oklahoma for the Oklahoma American Legion Mid-Winter Conference safely. I anticipate a report to pass on to you all next week.

Our Greatest Generation and those to come! 1-9-2020

I want to begin with a salute to Garrett Parks with the Sons of American Legion. The young men were given a mission to study and report on our own local legend Kenneth Taylor. With the holidays in play Garrett showed up and gave a very excellent presentation on the life of Kenneth Taylor. General Taylor and another airman shot down several Japanese zeros over thart tragic December 7th at Pearl Harbor. Good job Garrett!

Happy New Year From Post 142!

It is a fresh new year. Fresh beginings, New Year Resolutions soon to break. This is a good time to look back at the beginings of your American Legion Post 142 “Hut”. Thanks to our Adjundt John Hamilton, who did some research on our website (listed at the end of every weekly article) I present the history of the “Hut”. Best I can figure former Post commander Jim Frazier’s wife Polly put this together. So here we go. “Blackwell-Frazier American Legion Post #142 Hominy, Oklahoma. Post #142 meetings were originally held upstairs over the Dupy Furniture Store located at 124 West Main Street, in Hominy. However, in 1937, Past-Post Commander and Osage County Commissioner Joe Taylor saw an opportunity to purchase the Battery and Tire Shop at 118 South Wood. The building had been originally owned by local resident Joe Stebbins, but ultimately, it was purchased for some back taxes owed. In short order, World War I veterans started money-raising projects to refurbish the old building, which only had a dirt floor.
