This week I would like to pay tribute to someone who was the finest soldier I had the pleasure to serve with. He was a better soldier than I. His name was Leonard Buckley and we buried him with full military honors in December 2015.

Vipers!

This is special to me, I loaded bombs on B-52s, and F-105s and at the end of my career I got to rock the back seat of an F-16 in my retirement flight over Mt St Helens. On this day in 1974 the F-16 Fighting Falcon flew for the first time. The General Dynamics (now Lockheed Martin) F-16 Fighting Falcon is the single-engine multirole fighter aircraft originally developed by General Dynamics for the United States Air Force (USAF). Designed as an air superiority day fighter, it evolved into a successful all-weather multirole aircraft. Over 4,500 aircraft have been built since production was approved.

Texas Tough!

Growing up as a young lad in this culture I absorbed plenty from things around me. My folks and how they made decisions, heroes I read about or saw on TV. Sometimes it was the movies. One movie I always recalled was about a quite Texan, short in stature but tall in resolve. The funny thing is he played himself in the movie “To Hell and Back”. Today in 1945 he earned the Congressional Medal of Honor.

Ice Ice Baby

Well Mother Nature came to call and boy did she. Like you, we were socked in a bit, power off and on. I must admit the news folks had been preaching for quite a while that it was coming and, for once, they nailed it. If you were like me, you were stocking up, hoping for the best preparing for the worse. Those preparations certainly paid off. A hard job was handled very well by Hominy’s Electric Department and Dispatch. Hats off to them and all those who were there when and if needed. Many others were there waiting the call if needed. Salute!

A Deep Heritage Rooted in Sacrifice

With the holidays behind us I have the opportunity to again explore those events and individuals who, in measure, made our freedoms what they are. I read a lot, sometimes I reflect with all the political commentary that there those who paid a terrific price for our amusing’s on the political landscape. On this day in 1777 American Brigadier General Hugh Mercer died because of his wounds received at the Battle of Princeton and became a fallen hero and rallying symbol of the American Revolution.
