A Time of Remembrance

What great news from the Hut as we close in on Christmas. The Legion-Auxiliary Christmas Dinner was well attended and a great success. I heard great things and saw pictures on Face book as I was down all week on sick call. The famous Chicken Noodle fundraiser luncheon December 16th. was also a great event exceeding expectations as well as the last fund raiser goal. Now with the Charlie Brown Christmas Parade behind (man was that a cold but beautiful event! Hat’s off to Kathryn and all the volunteers), and the cold chill of winter upon us, we look to the New Year with hope and optimism.

A Time for Celebration

What a time for Hominy! Our High School football team won State and we have a fantastic parade coming this weekend. While we are proud of our players I think, we are also proud of all our students at school. They are involved in the community and all types of activities. I have seen some attend our community movies and believe they are the future of Hominy.

A Date that will Live

Today in 1941, as America’s Pacific fleet lay in ruins at Pearl Harbor, President Franklin Roosevelt requests, and receives, a declaration of war against Japan. “Yesterday,” the president proclaimed, “December 7, 1941, a date which will live in infamy, the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan. Kenneth Taylor Day Announced!

This week’s paper reflects the details of a great occasion recognized by our Mayor and City Council. Ken Taylor was a local boy who gained fame (which he famously downplayed) by being the first combat pilot to shoot down a Japanese Zero at the Attack on Pearl Harbor. We will play the movie Tora! Tora! Tora! this Saturday evening at 5:30 PM at the Hominy Community Center which he helped direct. A Governor’s Proclamation awaits as this is typed.

Full of Beans and Grateful

I was thinking on words that would be meaningful about our Thanksgiving Day experience this week and looked at something I wrote last year about this time. I think it bears repeating and still rings true. Allow me to repeat those thoughts.

“This week we reflect on all the many things we have to be thankful for. Not just material things but our freedoms to choose. This is not something everyone has especially on the other side of the planet. Our Founding Fathers crafted the great experiment that overtime through wrong turns and bumps gave us a nation where you can pretty much reach for any star you put your mind to. Although these freedoms are protected by rough men and strong women willing to do hard things (our veterans and now serving soldiers), it is important to consider the process of Thanksgiving. The thankful (you) reflect on those things you are blessed with and then to transmit you’re thanks to our Supreme Commander in Heaven. Simple huh?” Continue reading
