Flag Day (6-16-16)

Well word is that the chicken noodle dinner was a fantastic success. We really appreciate the local businesses that ordered lunch and Jerry Sebert for cooking, Jim Hale for taking the orders, Jim Beckett for delivering, Babo Cater for desserts, and Jack Cross to handling all the green that flowed from the event. This fund raiser will continue the good work the Post does for the community and we appreciate it.

Oh What a Night!

This will be a brief departure from the usual. The Hominy Community Center did a bit of a merge that included our local’s best in an event that honored community, tribal pride, and veteran contributions. That is what makes Hominy so special. The three are homogenous (look that one up kids!).

A Great Well of Knowledge My Mr. Pope

This last week was a very special one for me personally. One of my best buddies Dick Pope attended our gathering last Thursday. Cinco De Mayo

Cinco de Mayo has its roots in the French occupation of Mexico, which took place in the aftermath of the Mexican American War 1846-1848 and the 1858–61. The Reform War was a civil war which pitted Liberals (who believed in separation of Church and State  and freedom of religion) against the Conservatives (who favored a tight bond between the Roman Catholic Church and the Mexican State). These wars left the Mexican Treasury nearly bankrupt. On July 17, 1861, Mexican President Juarez issued a moratorium in which all foreign debt payments would be suspended for two years. In response, France, Britain, and Spain sent naval forces to Veracruz to demand reimbursement. Britain and Spain negotiated with Mexico and withdrew, but France, at the time ruled by Napoleon III, decided to use the opportunity to establish a Latin empire in Mexico that would favor French interests, the Second Mexican Empire. They lost. (Wikipedia)

Tribute to a Legend

All things have shifted. Our hearts are a half mast due to the passing of the legend of Hominy, Rex Mantooth. Rex leaves us with an impression that will last many generations. His legacy is reflected in the outstanding prodigy he has left us. Cindy and Jimmy are the two I have met personally and I consider them to be pillars of the Hominy community. As Chaplin of our American Legion Post Rex was always in attendance diligent in serving up our opening prayer. I had the honor of filling in at the last meeting in his absence.
