Knock on wood about the weather. Surely, the moment I submit this offering I will jinx it, but I think we are out of the woods weather wise. But don’t let your guard down and remain on the “common sense” rule. Our fearless commander had returned from his journeys to Arizona for the Ira Hayes/Iwo Jima Memorial Parade and Ceremony at Sacaton, AZ on the Pima Indian Reservation and from Wyoming. We had to move the slide presentation and narrative to the Thursday evening meeting (2 April) so be sure and drop by. The Hut Boss had to do duty at Ft. Sill and we appreciate his continued service. The spy’s were right…our Chef extraordinaire Jerry Sebert (fellow flyboy USAF) served up some good chow. It was beyond my wishes of beans and cornbread. It was fried potatoes, onions, peppers, brown beans, navy beans, smoked pork and two types of dessert. If you were not there you missed out. Continue reading

The weather seems to have leveled out. I don’t know about you, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that old man winter has exited stage left. Still, we remain on the “common sense” rule. Old man winter may still sneak up on us, you never know in ‘Okie-land’. Our fearless commander has returned from his journeys to Arizona for the Ira Hayes/Iwo Jima Memorial Parade and Ceremony at Sacaton, AZ on the Pima Indian Reservation and from Wyoming. We will have an awesome slide presentation and narrative on the Thursday evening meeting 19 March, so be sure and drop by. Spies have confirmed our Chef extraordinaire Jerry Sebert (fellow flyboy USAF) will be serving up some good chow. It should be fun starting about 6:00 pm. At this juncture, there is usually a pun about military time and branches of the military. I decided not to lower myself to that temptation. So I will just say, “Army…sun is going down”. March Meetings

Looks like I may have jumped the gun a little bit in cancelling last week’s Thursday night meeting [Dick Pope was heartbroken!] as the weather turned out better, but that’s the way it goes sometimes.

Next Legion meeting will Thursday, March 19th at 7:00pm at the Hut. I will have a slide show of our trip to Sacaton, AZ for the 70th Annual Iwo Jima Memorial/Ira Hayes parade and ceremony.

Also [USAF to the rescue, as always] Jerry Sebert will have a
Pre-Meeting dinner ready for us on the 19th, starting at 6:00pm.

Monday Morning Breakfasts at the Hut are back up and running, because of the good weather.

Not sure when we will have the weather-cancelled Chicken Noodle Fund Raiser luncheon but will look at the calendar and try and come up with a date.

I could write three articles about the fellow I am going to highlight this week. His military résumé alone would fill one, his service to the Hut would fill another, and the kick I get out of walking parades and interacting with him would fill another. I am going to have to settle for the “Cliff Notes” or “Reader’s Digest” mode for this however. This week’s hero is Steven Russell Swinford. Continue reading
