After a great couple weeks of patriotism and fellowship, we have recognized our best and greatest put to rest on Memorial Day. We had the posting of colors at the Hut, and last week, I wrote about the contribution of women in uniform (WASP), flying missions in support of D-Day. Reflecting on that, I thought I would follow up on the impact of that D-Day support, and two other events on this day. Continue reading

While many of us know that D-Day June 6th marks the anniversary of momentous turning point during WWII, that changed everything through great sacrifice; many miss out on the back stories that added to that great push. At our Post, there are those who served as, what we call in the service, “the point of the spear”. These are the bravest who met the enemy face first under immediate danger of their lives being lost to take that hill, meet that objective, or complete the mission. Many did not come home, and those that did carried wounds most of us will never really comprehend. We honor them the best we can in our meager way. Continue reading

Help needed with Memorial Day Flags.

We continue to look for community support, contributions and volunteers for our annual effort to recognize the heroes of our past, with the setting of American Flags at the Powell Cemetery.
We are still seeking contributions and volunteers for this patriotic duty.
Call Babo Carter at 918-885-6041 to donate time or money to this worthy cause.
We will be out 9:00 AM on Friday, May 23rd to begin setting flags.

We will also need help in removal June 2nd at noon. Contact Babo for any details.

Also, on May 26th, Memorial Day, we will gather at the Post for a flag ceremony to be performed at noon. It should be well attended and you might want to drop by and join us as we honor this timeless homage to our country.

Flags and Ribs!

I looked forward to an update on the combined Auxiliary and Post Pork Rib Cookout that happened the 17th of May at 1800 hrs. Family members of the entire crew were invited to attend. I was AWL (Absent with Leave, I just made that up) due to a previous commitment made months ago. Trust me, what I had for dinner was K-Rations compared to the feast I missed. Our commander informed me that a good crowd attended and a great time was had by all. Jerry’s ribs were outstanding, as usual. The Auxiliary came through with side dishes and the heavy lifting of clean up duties after (thank you ladies!). Continue reading
