Busy Holidays!

The Main Street Treats downtown event was fantastic success once again! The Auxiliary Ladies, as always, carried the load with the help of Dick Pope and a few other hearty souls while Babo, Chris, Stan, I, and some of the crew sat and goofed off judging the costumes as they went by. A few of the favorites were, of course, some boys in Army uniforms; and there was the Predator costume, Hulk, and such.

My vote was for the gal wearing the Spock/Star Trek outfit. Being a fan of the 60’s show the get up was pretty much spot on (or Spock on…sorry about that!). The kids came from Cleveland, Wynona, Fairfax, as well as our local kids and they packed both sides of the street.

This will be the last reminder that Post members will participating in the Fairfax Veterans Day Parade on Saturday November 8th put on by Retired Seaman Leon Hendrix and Eva Donovan [formerly married to a USMC veteran] from Fairfax. Details are in this paper so as I have covered it in the past I won’t belabor the details. Suffice to say American Legion Post 142 will represent in a robust manner as always. I am excited since I have had scheduling conflicts the last two years but not this time!

Also on the 11th (Veteran’s Day) the high school will host an event to honor America’s heroes who answered the call through the years. I attended last year and was very pleased with how well it was put together. It was an impressive presentation by the students with music and reading, recognizing those among the community who have stood the test of time serving their country nobly. There was also a great lunch catered by Mac’s BBQ (Legionnaires remember to remove your cover!). It starts at 11:30 am till 12:30 am and veterans are welcome.

I would encourage you to participate. These activities are financed in large part by the Post and we always have had great support from the community. Please give us a hand. Call Jack Cross 918-885-2388. He will be happy to receive all donations.

Now for some new information! I dropped by the City Hall after my last Monday Koffee Klatch Monday morning and got the inside track on the Christmas Parade (You saw it here first!). The date is December 6th Saturday at 0930 (that’s AM for the USAF types). I imagine it will be chilling, and thrilling for the youngsters. I know I will be toting a thermos of hot chocolate!

Remember our regular meetings are the first and third Thursdays at 7:00 PM (6th & 20th of November). Monday morning Koffee Klatch meetings in November are still up and running starting around 0700 till about 0900. Thanks to the crew there is usually biscuits and gravy and maybe a waffle or two and always a cup of Joe (coffee to the civilians). If you are a veteran come on by. If you have a good story it may end up in print! Also keep up with us on the website “americanlegion142.org”.
