Jimmie Beckett tapped me on the shoulder at the fantastic Main Street Treat celebration last Saturday night. I have been reporting the big Chicken Noodle Dinner will be held on the wrong date. It’s the 14th of November (Saturday) not the 12th. DUH! If you have not experienced the heavenly delight of handmade noodles with delicious chicken and broth you have a treat ahead of you. Chef Sebert is a master of this and all dishes he creates. Hard to believe he wasn’t a cook in the good old USAF then again as I recall chow halls in the day, maybe that was a good thing.
Speaking of the Main Street event, we were front and center on Main Street for the Main Street Treat Candy give out Saturday October 31st. There were tons of kids and their parents rotating the both sides of Main Street. The Auxiliary really carried the ball as usual (yes, watching football as I type). All of us old guys smiled shook hands with the public and caught up with each other on local doings of the Hut and community. Afterwards we meandered over to the Hut for coffee and cocoa that was provided for members and friends. I could not stay long for the after party but did come in to say “Hi” to Jerry Sebert who provided an excellent layout and his partner in crime Dick Pope. It is always a joy to see those patriots.
Have you bought your ticket for the 100 #s of fresh meat from the Wild Country raffle drawing? The drawing will be held on December 11th at the Christmas Dinner with our Auxiliary. It will be a family event so kids and grandkids are welcome. November 7th we will be fully engaged, participating in the Veterans Day parade in Fairfax with our buddies from Post 333 Ralston. We will be driving our restored 1973 Army jeep, Bessy. Our favorite navy pal CP-03 Leon Hendricks of Fairfax (who is the organizer) will be on hand and it will be great to catch up on things.
Want a beautiful Damascus Knife? The raffle’s end draws near. Hats off to Dan Rathbun for the donation. Prost Dan! Tickets are still on sell. The drawing will be November 11th, Veteran’s Day. Tickets are $1 each and 6 tickets for $5. You can get your ticket around town where you see advertising or any American Legion member (the usual gang). Speaking of Veterans Day, this year plans is now in place. Wednesday November 11th lunch will be served for veterans and their guests at the Baptist Church Fellowship Hall at 11 am and the Veteran’s Day program will follow at the gymnasium west of the football field on Highway 99 at 12:30 pm. The traditional tribal blanket will be presented to one of our local veterans whose contributions to our nation and community deserve recognition and honor. Who will it be?
Don’t forget our regular meetings continue the first and third Thursdays of the month at 7:00 PM (November 5th and 19th). Monday morning Koffee Klatch meetings in November are still scheduled for biscuits and gravy and maybe a waffle or two and always a cup of Joe (coffee to the civilians). Keep your eye on the weather in case things have to be postponed. If you are a veteran come on by. If you have a good story it may end up in print. Also keep up with us at website “americanlegion142.org”.
