“News from the Hut”
for American Legion Post #142; Hominy, Oklahoma.
by Gary Lanham
So much is going on. We had a great meeting last Thursday evening and I had the privilege of meeting a new member Kevin King (son of Chris King). He was in the 782nd, a division of the 82nd Airborne making sure wheels turned and rubber burned (vehicle mechanic). Welcome aboard Kevin! More news, the Hut will have a new sign out front soon. Word is Stan Mueller and Sherry Carter (Hominy’s Facebook Queen and Babo’s boss) have pulled this together.
The Veteran’s Day parade in Fairfax was fantastic. Crowds were small but Post 142 came out in full force. Leon Hendricks of Fairfax did a great job pulling things together and no, his truck is not for sell (inside joke). It was great seeing Neil Conrad and his wife from Post 333 Ralston front and center. Bessie the 1973 Army Jeep made its appearance with Jerry Sebert tossing candy to the kiddos watching. Commander O’Leary and Vice Commander Steve Swinford followed with the colors. Natasha Evans and Sebastian Evans (Charles and Nancy’s grand kiddos) did an outstanding job carrying the American Legion banner and vehicles carrying our Band of Brothers took up the rear. It was a beautiful day.
This Saturday you will be our big event starting at 11:00. Jerry Sebert’s fantastic Chicken Noodle dinner. If you have not experienced this meal you have a great event ahead of you. Come on out and get acquainted. You will not leave hungry I can guarantee that. Jerry actually makes the noodles from scratch.
Get your ticket for the 100 #s of fresh meat from the Wild Country raffle drawing. Time is running out. The drawing will be held on December 11th at the Christmas Dinner with our Auxiliary. It will be a family event so everyone is welcome.
At the time of this writing Veteran’s Day will have passed and before I can report the results of the Veteran’s Day Veteran of Honor, most folks will already know. Hominy is a small community after all. I look forward to reporting the results of the tribal blanket presentation next week.
Don’t forget our regular meetings continue the first and third Thursdays of the month at 7:00 PM (November 19th). Monday morning Koffee Klatch meetings in November are still scheduled for biscuits and gravy and maybe a waffle or two and always a cup of Joe (coffee to the civilians). Keep your eye on the weather in case things have to be postponed. If you are a veteran come on by. If you have a good story it may end up in print. Also keep up with us at website “americanlegion142.org”.
