Another Great Veteran’s day

Friday November 18th our flags will be tucked away with one more memorable Veteran’s Day behind us. The City and High School did an outstanding job recognizing those who served in our community. Our Veterans of the Year honorable ones this year were Bob Hough, Dean Bach, and James Frazier. It was great to see Jim and Polly but a special salute goes out to their son Michael, who travelled from glitzy Las Vegas Nevada to attend.

Polly and Michael came by my office with a substantial donation of books of the military genre. It will make a considerable upgrade to the library at the Hut. Salute to you two…and my friend Jim Frazier who served with distinction as Post Commander so many years.  Our favorite Gy-reen (Marine) Bob Hough was recognized as well for his contributions during WWII in the Pacific serving with the 2nd Marine Division as was Dean Bach who made us proud serving in the US Army in Korea. Truly, I walk among heroes.

I heard the November 12th 14th Annual Fairfax Veterans Parade was a huge success with larger than normal crowds. Steve Swinford took command of the Jeep and, with the whole crew, made an outstanding presence to Fairfax of how Hominy veteran’s do a parade! I was AWOL serving elsewhere but stayed in contact as the parade ended via phone with Steve. A job well done boys!

A reminder, November the 18th we will serve up Beans and side items to the public to raise money as we retire worn flags and replace those lost. Babo Carter has done an outstanding service in the past and remains appreciated for helping us be a flag proud community.

Future details are coming about the Auxiliary Christmas Dinner (Dec 15th), Chicken Noodle fundraiser (Dec 16th), and Christmas Parade (Dec 17th). With our outstanding Bucks football team continuing in the play-offs we watch these schedules closely. Go BUCKS!

Our regular meetings are the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month. (17th of November tonight). The Monday morning Koffee Klatch meetings for November Monday’s are still scheduled for biscuits and gravy and always a cup of Joe (coffee to the civilians).  Keep your eye on the weather in case things have to be postponed. If you are a veteran come on by. If you have a good story it may end up in print. Also keep up with us at website “americanlegion142.org”.
