Thank you Hominy Vietnam Veterans!

Once again I want extend our condolences to the Frazier on the lost of Jim Frazier who was also our Post Commander. I will post more next week.

Thanks to the members who put out the flags on Thursday on Main Street for Vietnam Veteran Recognition Day and retrieved them. I had a lot of reflection over the Vietnam Veteran Recognition Day. I grew up in southern California on the coast in the sixties. I was raised on John Wayne movies with a hard two fisted Okie dad who had medals and scars from his duty in WWII. He was not a fan of the Vietnam conflict. I remember troops coming back to be spit on and treated horribly.

Regardless, I signed up, young and not completely in tune with all the details about the draft and such. I did not go “in country” like many of our local boys at the post did. We did what we were ordered to do. Some in fierce roles others riding a desk. I loaded bombs. Later I installed radar systems. The bottomline is when you raise your righty hand, say the oath you sign a commitment to serve. For some of us that commitment has no expiratyion date. I want to extend a salute to my brothers and sisters from our “era”.

We are going to have our Organization Meeting for Sons of the American Legion Squadron 142 in Hominy this Thursday April 4, 2019 at 5:00 PM at the Hut. Someone from OKC or Talala will be there to help us. The Sons will eat 6:00 PM dinner with us and then leave. We need DUAL MEMBERS! If your father or grandfather served in the military you are eligible! Membership is only $10.00. We need the younger people to help us with our Post projects. I am a proud example of a dual member.

In conjunction our next Legion meeting will be this Thursday April 4, 2019 at 7:00 PM at the Hut. Jerry Sebert will be serving a meal at 6:00 PM. We will be holding Post elections at this meeting also.

Who can appreciate John Hamilton as much as his brothers in arms? He attended the District 1 Convention in Vinita with the commander last weekend and did a great job as District 1B Adjutant. Also our Post Resolution regarding formalizing Appointed Admin District Vice-Commanders passed. We will forward the Resolution Packet to State now.

A final reminder, the next regular Legion meeting is the first and third Thursday of the month in April that is the 4th. Monday morning Koffee Klatch meetings in April are still scheduled for biscuits and gravy and always a cup of Joe (coffee to the civilians). Just watch the weather, it is the only factor that my change that. I think the Chef is on duty as we are heading into spring. If you are a veteran come on by. If you have a good story it may end up in print. Also keep up with us at website “americanlegion142.org”.
