So, when time get tough, the tough get going. This is not directly a Legion thing but I have to tip my cap to the City team. When gas issues, water leaks, pot holes, and Pool issues seem to pervade our leadership steps up. My opinion is that the City Manager, City Council, City Attorney, City information officer really take charge and get things handled and communicate well. We have strong leadership as well from our Legion crew. Nancy O’Leary just completed her one year stint as the State Auxillary Commander, as her husband stepped up to our east District Vice Commander of the Okalhoma American Legion. At last weekend’s State Legion meeting our Sons of American Legion Commander, John Hamilton, won the State AL Yearbook award and is now going to the National Convention for the final competition. That is a lot.
Check into the Facebook presence thanks to our Adjunct John Hamilton (also SAL Commander). It is “Hominy Legion”. There you can see updates on doings at the Hut and provide feedback and ask questions in private massages. We hope it will expand awareness of what we are doing in the community as well as for fellow veteran’s and their families.
Next week I will update you all on the field trip for the younger men of the SAL to OKC’s 45th OKARNG Museum last week. If you have or are a son or grandson of a military veteran join up. Ton’s of fun during the summer for sure. I am asking the hosts of last week’s field trip for a write up so you all can see what is going on.
As a reminder Brigadier General Kenneth Taylor will be inducted into the Oklahoma Military Hall of Fame on Saturday, 26 October at the Embassy Suites in Norman, OK. His wife, daughter, son in law, cousin and her husband will be present to accept the induction. Many of you all remember he grew up in Hominy and shot down the 1st Japanese Zero over Pearl Habor on the Day of Infamy. He was the technical director of the movie “Tora, Tora, Tora” and was loosely played by an actor in the movie “Pearl Harbor”. You can send a private message to our new Facebook page “Hominy Legion” if you wish to attend the banquet. We can send you the registration form by email. I will be attending the formal banquet and staying the night at the Norman Embassy Suites.
We still have 100th anniversary American Legion “Challenge’ Coins for $10. They are one of a kind and a collectable item. I had one but I keep giving them to a few special veteran friends. I will be buying a few more!
Regular Legion meetings are usually the first and third Thursday of the month. In August it will be the 1st and 15th . We will be meeting with the Sons of American Legion at 5:00 pm but this month’s dinner will be the 15th in line with the induction of officers for the Post and the Auxillary with the regular meeting at 7:00 pm on August 15th. The SAL is invited to that dinner. Koffee Klatch meetings in August we are still scheduled for biscuits and gravy and always a cup of Joe (coffee to the civilians). Just watch the weather, it is the only factor that my change that. I think the Chef is on duty as we are into the summer. If you are a veteran come on by. If you have a good story it may end up in print. Also keep up with us at website “americanlegion142.org”.
