So much is going on. We had a great meeting last Thursday evening and I had the privilege of meeting a new member Kevin King (son of Chris King). He was in the 782nd, a division of the 82nd Airborne making sure wheels turned and rubber burned (vehicle mechanic). Welcome aboard Kevin! More news, the Hut will have a new sign out front soon. Word is Stan Mueller and Sherry Carter (Hominy’s Facebook Queen and Babo’s boss) have pulled this together.

Jimmie Beckett tapped me on the shoulder at the fantastic Main Street Treat celebration last Saturday night. I have been reporting the big Chicken Noodle Dinner will be held on the wrong date. So much to talk about this week. I think the highlight of the week was during last Thursday night’s meeting. Dennis Kidder (US Army Vietnam Vet) and Jimmie Beckett (USAF all over Alaska, Iceland, North Pole and Greenland) were recognized for their service and presented with the traditional American Legion head gear. Eli and Steve Swinford presented the honors being former Army. Dennis was awarded the Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, and Combat Infantry Badge, just to name a few. Some of their military history was captured on the hats but more is to come. Dennis shared some amazing stories about his time “In Country” with all of the challenges and rough recollection that comes from someone who has “been there and done that”. Many of us served in support roles and missions but those that were “the point of the spear” carried the heavy load and thank you will never be enough.
