Wendell Curt Graham has passed away

Wendell Curt Graham

Wendell Curt Graham, 60, died on Monday, July 16, 2012.  Living in Skiatook, he was a long-time member of American Legion Post 142 of Hominy.

Wendell Graham was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on August 5, 1951 to Ben and Ida (Goad) Graham. After attending Charles Page High School in Sand Springs, Graham joined the Army and served his country honorably in Vietnam.

Wendell was married to his wife Roben (Street) Graham, for thirty-seven years.

Graham was First Vice-Commander and an active member of the American Legion Post 142 in Hominy. An outgoing man, he enjoyed time with his family, which was of great importance to him….especially his grandchildren. Fishing, playing pool, watching Westerns and collecting Harley Davidson memorabilia were also favorite activities. Continue reading

Community Open House – Memorial Day

American Legion Post 142 is hosting a Community Open House on Memorial Day, May 28th; with breakfast being served to the community and visitors.

Breakfast will be served at no cost and begins at 7 a.m. and go until 11:30 a.m.

At 11:30 am, a flag lowering ceremony will take place, memorializing fallen service members.  Then, the American flag will be raised again at 12:00 noon.

Memorial Day Americanism

On Thursday, May 24th; American Legion Post 142 will be joining Auxiliary Unit 142  and many others to place flags on all veterans’ graves at the A.J. Powell Cemetery in Hominy, Ok.

This is a community project led by Robert Carter, American Legion Post 142 Service Officer and Americanism Chairman.  Approximately 800 plus flags will be placed.

The placement of flags start at 9 a.m. with people meeting at the main entrance flag pole in the A.J. Powell Cemetery.    Everyone is welcome to attend and help place flags in memory of our veterans.

May is Poppy Month

The American Legion and Auxiliary recognizes May as Poppy month.   We urge people to wear a poppy during the month of May but especially on Memorial Day.

Donations are greatly appreciated.  The donations go to help veterans and their families.    Unit 142 will be celebrating Poppy Day on Friday, May 25th, and members are scheduled to meet at 11:00 am in front of Chad’s Diner and the Wild Country Meat Market, in Hominy.
